About the Sancy

Experience France untouched

The Sancy is located in the Puy-de-Dôme, one of the four departments of the Auvergne region with Clermont-Ferrand as its capital.
The Puy-de-Dôme is a versatile area with beautiful unspoiled nature and countyside, interesting sights such as the cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand, the impressive dormant volcano of the Puy-de-Dôme and the beautiful Romanesque churches dating from the 12th century, one of which is in Saint- Nectaire.
The Sancy is part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne (regional park). There is a great variety of landscapes, historical heritage and a wealth of nature with mountains and valleys (for example La Vallée de Chaudefour) and lakes of volcanic origin like eg Lac Chambon, Lac Pavin, Lac Guéry and Lac d'Aydat. In the Massif du Sancy there is never a dull moment.

Traditional dishes for the gourmets

Allow yourself to be seduced by the exquisite dishes from the Auvergne! Whether you are in the Puy-de-Dôme, in the Cantal or in the Allier, you can enjoy the delicious cheeses, dried cured ham and dried cured sausages that these regions have to offer. The wines of the Côtes d'Auvergne and the Saint-Pourçain are certainly also worth mentioning. The red wines are generally made from the Gamay and/or pinot-noir grape. The colour of the red wine are a deep red while the structure is full of tannins. These red Côte d'Auvergne wines are affordable French top-quality wines. They are solid, full-bodied wines with a lot of character and a somewhat fat complexed taste. The red wines are ideal to combine with the local dishes. The white wines are mostly from the chardonnay grape, fresh and full of flavour and are very tasty with fish dishes or to accompany an aperitif. Also don't forget the delicious cheeses of Saint-Nectaire, Murol, Cantal....
